Cottontails
is a partially adult-interactive class,
designed to be a transition for those children who
are not ready to be on the field without their
parent but are ready for more of a challenge then
the Thumpers class.
Play is the ideal way for children to learn at this
age. Play allows children to try on new roles and
test out new skills in a non-threatening
environment. Using play and creative teaching
methods also allows us to put instructions into a
language kids will more readily understand and
apply.
Besides teaching soccer, the underlying purpose of
Cottontails class is to build confidence so children
can become independent and learn to take initiative.
Through use of dramatic play, firm yet nurturing
boundaries, high energy coaching, the concept of
progression and focus on effort and fun, we provide
opportunities for that independence and confidence
to emerge.
Parent’s Role: While they are not quite
ready to be on the field without you, Cottontails do
possess many of the skills needed to head in that
direction. Children and adults will participate in
structured activities with the idea that parent
participation will gradually decrease as the child’s
confidence and ability increase, slowly taking on a
less active and more supportive role in the class.
Classes include story-driven games like Hungry
Hippos, Alien Tag, and skill driven games like
Heater Freezer and Nest Egg. Classes are 50 minutes
long with a child-to-coach ratio of 12:1.
Adult participation is encouraged. |
