Big
Feet is an introductory class for 5&6 year
olds to help develop basic soccer skills. This class
will develop skills such as dribbling, passing,
trapping, scoring as well as introduce the ideas of
sportsmanship and team play. Kids at this age are at
the “watch what I can do” stage. They love to show
off and gain specific recognition for their
achievements. They are a ‘big kid’ now and have a
newfound desire to feel powerful in their world.
Along with this new desire to show achievement, the
learning process has changed too. Children at this
age continue to have an active imagination but their
need for information has expanded. Classes will
focus on specific skills and movements and add in
small-sided scrimmages to prepare for Micro Leagues
classes.
Parent’s Role: We encourage parents
to be involved in their child’s soccer experience.
Parent support is important in helping children
succeed. We do ask that parents be involved by
supporting children with hi-five’s and words of
encouragement and refrain from coaching from the
sidelines. Children can only focus on one set of
instructions at a time, and our instructors need to
be the only coach during their class. The best way
for parents to help is to support and encourage the
child to listen to their coach.
Classes include
fast paced, imaginative games like Sharks, Castles
and Cannon balls, and Save the Coach, and skill
driven games like Red Light Green Light and Beat the
Keeper/Be the Keeper. Classes are 50 minutes long
with a child-to-coach ratio of 12:1. |
